RIP Plug Two
1988 Junior Year, Sterling High, I heard a new style of speak, 3 kids caught my eye (Word to Phife Dawg, IYKYK). A song dropped that basically told us that Pos and Dove were about to get plugged into lines one and two. “Plug one and Plug two “ became a contagious lyric.
My nerdy self would tell my friends that hip-hop is on a new level. I was so excited about these “regular kids” rhymin’ and flauntin’ their new style of speak. The breakbeats were familiar but the samples were obscure and fun.
From that day in ‘88 until the release of the album in March, I was invested. I bought every cassette/cd they released. I loved what they did and attempted to do. Their styles. The concepts. Everything.
With all this and more in mind, it was sad to hear that Plug Two aka Dave aka Trugoy the Dove (trugoy is yogurt lol) aka Dave Jolicoeur passed away at age 54. His lyrics at times were very introspective. He was sneaky fun and seemed to care free back in the day. In the picture above, he is the second one (at 3 pm) if you start at the top of the pic and go clockwise.
Instead of rambling I’m going to let the music do the talking. 5 of my favorite De La Jams…enjoy:
Plug Two’s Verse was my Fave.
One of the reasons people used to create long ass answering machine prompts!
This one is full of so much wordplay and song references it’s fun, plus the video showing the “ego trippin” of the rap world…
If you don’t push play on this one…smh
I’ll leave you with Plug Two at his most introspective…he has the first verse…RIP PLUG TWO…
5 Super Bowl Thoughts
What a game! I said the key to winning was simple, whoever had the ball last was going to win. The game started off like a championship fight, as both teams did what they did best.
Keys of the game: Chiefs winning the toss and deferring. They would get the ball in the second half. The only way to nullify that is to go into the half with a big lead, that was going to happen for Philly, but a fumble return for a TD swung the momentum. That was Philly’s opportunity to take control. They failed and the game was close the rest of the way. Mahomes did what he does best. He seals deals. He earned his 2nd, and well deserved ring.
Jalen Hurts is a bad man. His future is bright. I hope Philly can get back and win one. Did I just say that? No I don’t! But I wouldn’t be mad if Jalen got a ring. Quick aside: Jalen makes me feel like DJay in Hustle and Flow when he explains how he knows Skinny Black, which is he really don’t know him at all. I know everybody but him it seems. Or we are connected by a lot of people, but I’ve never met him. Small world I tell ya…
Pretty cool that the MVP prevailed over the runner-up. You wanna see this develop into a rivalry on some level. A historic matchup that lived up to the hype. The league couldn’t have scripted it any better.
Speaking of the NFL, they should be running the country, their propaganda and ability to get everyone together is unparalleled. Think about it…
Until next time Peace and Love
